Wuhan (Xinhua): At the Humanoid Robot Innovation Center in Hubei, a central province of China, Rashida Shaukat Sial leaned toward a robot and carefully corrected her pronunciation before calling its name “Guang Zi,” which means “photon.” A few moments later, two bright points in place of the robot’s eyes took on a smile-like shape.
Soon, the Pakistani anchor associated with independent digital media asked the questions that first-time visitors often ask: Do you know Pakistan? Do you like Pakistani food, biryani? And what do you think about relations between Pakistan and China?
As the robot answered the questions one by one, members of the visiting Pakistani media and think tank delegation kept laughing, nodding, and taking out their mobile phones to record this interesting conversation.
Before leaving, Rashida Shaukat Sial stayed back for another video. She asked the robots to shake hands with her and wave goodbye. She said, “Guang Zi is now my new friend.”
This meeting was one of many such interesting and informative moments in Hubei, where from Thursday to Saturday, 12 representatives of Pakistan’s media and research institutions visited various projects.
This visit is part of a broader tour of China which is ongoing from April 18 to April 28. During this time, the delegation observed various projects related to technology, logistics, agriculture, and transport.
For many members of the delegation, this visit was an opportunity through which they got a chance to closely see the advanced technologies driving the transformation in China’s economy, and also to assess potential areas of deeper cooperation with Pakistan.
At the Hubei Humanoid Robot Innovation Center located in China’s major central high-tech hub, China Optics Valley, the delegation saw that machines were performing tasks that were previously attributed only to humans.
On this occasion, robotic arms were lifting and transferring goods, service robots were arranging household items, cooking robots were preparing various dishes, while patrol robots were sending timely environmental data.
