Shan Shahid speaks over Meera Irshad Bhatti issue

Renowned Pakistani actor Shaan Shahid has broken his silence on the controversy between journalist Irshad Bhatti and actress Meera.

Actress Meera has been making headlines in recent days. She recently appeared on podcasts hosted by Irshad Bhatti and Rehan Tariq, where controversial and offensive questions directed at her went viral on social media.

During these interviews, Meera avoided responding to any controversy and continued to promote her upcoming film “Psycho.”

On this matter, she also received strong support from fans, media personalities, and members of the entertainment industry.

Recently, her fellow actor Shaan Shahid also spoke out about the Meera–Irshad Bhatti controversy during a morning show on a private TV channel.

Shaan Shahid said that he does not understand one thing: investigative journalism and entertainment journalism are two separate fields, so why does political journalism in Pakistan cross its boundaries and enter the domain of entertainment?

He added that such questions often feel like interrogations, as if artists are not in an interview but sitting in a courtroom or before NAB. He emphasized that professionals in journalism should learn entertainment journalism, which should focus on an artist’s craft rather than conducting interrogations like investigative reporting.

The actor further said that it is disappointing when people expect artists to be completely “honest and virtuous” at all times. Humans make mistakes—so why expect perfection from guests on a podcast?

He remarked that he has seen many good people engage in such negative behavior. “We watch them, follow them, respect them, and listen to their analyses—but then they lose that respect themselves.”

Shaan Shahid concluded by saying that artists should now do thorough homework about hosts’ personal backgrounds before appearing on their podcasts.
