An Iranian delegation is reportedly preparing to travel to Islamabad on Tuesday for potential negotiations with the United States.
According to senior Iranian officials familiar with the matter, Iran with its confidence in Pakistan and its leadership is sending the delegation to Islamabad on the request of PM Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir.
Sources indicate that Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, a prominent Iranian political and military figure, is expected to lead the delegation. He will be accompanied by other key Iranian diplomats whose names are not yet revealed.
Negotiation team from Washington is also arriving in Islamabad for a second round of talks with Iran aimed at extending a two-week ceasefire that is set to expire on Wednesday.
The negotiations follow a period of heightened rhetoric, with US President Donald Trump threatening to destroy Iran and wipe out power plants and civilian infrastructure if a deal is not reached. Tehran has labelled the ship’s seizure “piracy”, aggravating the situation further and creating an environment of mistrust.
Islamabad has made all preparations for the second round of talks with high profile security arrangements in the capital territory. The leaders are optimistic to reach a deal aiming to bring durable peace for the entire region.
Leaders around the globe have their eye on Islamabad. The meeting would mark a significant diplomatic development involving Iran, the United States, and Pakistan as a host for high-level discussions.
