Web Desk: Police in Karachi have launched a sweeping crackdown on organized exam cheating networks during ongoing matriculation exams, arresting several alleged gang leaders and intensifying operations across the city.

Acting on orders from Additional Inspector General Azad Khan, the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) carried out targeted and technical operations against groups accused of facilitating paper leaks and organized cheating.

As a result, authorities arrested four suspected ringleaders Mubeen Khan, Osama, Bilal and Abdul Razzaq during raids in Malir, Surjani, New Karachi and Gulshan areas, Deputy Inspector General CIA Muqaddas Haider said.

Investigators say the suspects ran coordinated networks that charged students large sums of money in exchange for guaranteed access to exam papers. Payments were allegedly collected through various online banking channels, police added.

Moreover, officials estimate that between eight and ten organized cheating groups are currently active in the city. One of the main networks, allegedly led by Mubeen Khan, operated around 13 sub groups with nearly 13,000 student members.

Police said Mubeen Khan is a final year cyber security student at Sindh Madressatul Islam University, while another arrested suspect is an intermediate level student.

Meanwhile, authorities continue interrogations to identify additional members and dismantle the wider network. Haider stressed that law enforcement would pursue all individuals involved, signaling a zero tolerance policy against exam fraud.

The crackdown comes as concerns grow over the integrity of public examinations, prompting authorities to tighten oversight and enforcement during the current testing cycle.
