Pakistan eyes key mediator role with offer to host US-Iran talks again

second round of negotiations

Web Desk: Pakistan has proposed hosting a second round of negotiations between the United States and Iran in Islamabad in the coming days, as the timeline for an ongoing ceasefire nears its end, officials said.

Two Pakistani officials, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, confirmed that Islamabad has conveyed its willingness to facilitate further dialogue between Washington and Tehran reported by AP News. However, they noted that the final decision will rest with both parties, particularly if they opt for an alternative venue.

Meanwhile, the offer reflects Pakistan’s effort to support continued diplomatic engagement at a time of heightened regional uncertainty.

Although the initial round of discussions concluded without a formal agreement, Pakistani authorities do not view the outcome as a setback. Instead, they regard the talks as one phase in an ongoing diplomatic effort aimed at easing tensions between the two sides.

Officials emphasised that sustained engagement remains critical, especially as the ceasefire period approaches its anticipated conclusion.

By putting forward Islamabad as a potential host city, Pakistan is seeking to play a constructive role in maintaining dialogue between the United States and Iran. The move underscores Islamabad’s intention to keep communication channels open and encourage further negotiations at a delicate geopolitical moment.

As developments unfold, the willingness of both parties to continue talks will likely determine whether Pakistan’s offer materialises into the next round of discussions.
