Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed his commitment to continue playing a role for lasting peace in the region.
Speaking during the federal cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister said efforts are ongoing to resolve long-standing issues between the United States and Iran, and that Pakistan played an important role in facilitating these talks.
He said that for the first time in 47 years, high-level direct talks took place between the two countries. At the request of Pakistan, delegations from both the US and Iran visited Pakistan, and he thanked both presidents for this development.
He added that Pakistan will continue its role in promoting peace in the region and that the country had been given an opportunity to mediate peace efforts.
According to him, the discussions between the two sides continued for 21 hours, and for the first time in history, US and Iranian delegations sat across from each other for direct talks.
The federal cabinet expressed appreciation for the Prime Minister, Foreign Minister, and Field Marshal for their efforts regarding Iran–US negotiations.
