Google has introduced its new open artificial intelligence model, Gemma 4.
According to Xinhua News Agency, Google stated that Gemma 4 is designed for advanced reasoning and automated (agentic) workflows, and has been released under the Apache License 2.0, making it easier for developers to access cutting-edge AI technology.
Google said the model is based on the same research and technology used in the Gemini AI series. It has been introduced in four different sizes, allowing it to run on Android devices, laptops, and large-scale computing systems.
Key features of Gemma 4 include:
Multi-step planning
Complex reasoning capabilities
Ability to create autonomous AI agents that can interact with tools and APIs
Additionally, the model supports:
Code generation
Direct processing of images and videos
According to Google, Gemma 4 offers a context window of 128,000 to 256,000 tokens and has been trained on more than 140 languages.
The company also revealed that the Gemma series has been downloaded over 400 million times so far.
Besides, When Google Gemini was launched, it had emerged as ChatGPT’s most aggressive competitor, experiencing 44% growth in just three months, jumping from 450 million active users in July 2025 to 650 million in October.
Although it boasts 76.55 million monthly active users across its mobile apps, its market share in AI-powered search reached only 14.8% in January 2026.
