Islamabad : The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has set its sights on social media influencers and content creators earning substantial income. The authority has decided to bring all such individuals under the tax net.
According to sources, YouTubers, TikTokers, and Instagram influencers will be included. FBR has prepared a draft amendment to the Income Tax Rules 2002.
The law will apply to Pakistani citizens earning from social media, including income from sponsorships and ads. The tax regulations will also cover interactions with Pakistani users on social media platforms.
The draft specifies that taxable income will be calculated based on earnings and expenses from social media activity.
Average views and annual posts will be considered, and income tax will be applied according to a specific formula. Influencers will also need to separately declare this income in their annual tax returns.
A one-week deadline has been set for submitting objections, suggestions, or feedback on the draft. Once these are received, the amendments will be finalized.
