Web Desk: The Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) officially notified a transition to a four-day workweek for all private schools in the federal capital on Thursday. This decision aligns with the government’s broader austerity and fuel conservation measures.

According to the notification, all Private Educational Institutions (PEIs) within the Islamabad Capital Territory must now observe on-campus academic activities from Monday to Thursday. Consequently, students and staff will receive three weekly holidays, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. This new schedule takes effect immediately and will remain in place until further orders.

The Competent Authority approved this measure as part of a national effort to reduce energy consumption. By cutting the physical school week to four days, officials aim to significantly decrease fuel usage related to transportation and school operations. Furthermore, the move reflects the government’s commitment to managing limited energy resources during the current economic climate.

The notification, signed by Secretary PEIRA Muhammad Javed Iqbal, directs all concerned institutions to ensure compliance in true letter and spirit. While the order currently applies specifically to private institutions in the Islamabad Capital Territory, it sets a precedent for potential similar measures in other sectors.

Educational administrators must now adjust their weekly lesson plans to fit the compressed four-day schedule. Although the notification focuses on on-campus activities, many institutions may consider shifting certain administrative or supplementary tasks to a remote format. Parents and students across the capital are currently preparing for the immediate shift in the weekly academic routine.
