Washington: U.S President Donald Trump claimed that Iran gave a “gift” to show it is serious about a possible agreement. According to him, this gift was allowing oil tankers to safely pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking during a cabinet meeting, Trump said Iranian officials assured him that they would allow eight large oil tankers to pass through the strait to demonstrate their seriousness and strong stance.

He added that later, when he saw the news, he observed that eight ships had indeed passed through the Strait of Hormuz, and he claimed that these ships were sailing under the Pakistani flag.

Due to tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, fuel shortages have reportedly become a serious issue in India, with long queues forming at petrol pumps for petrol, diesel, and gas.

Trump further stated that after allowing eight ships, Iran apologized and said it would permit two more ships to pass, bringing the total to ten.

However, according to available information reported by The Times of Israel, although some oil tankers did pass through this key waterway earlier in the week, there is no confirmed report about eight specific ships, nor any identification of ships carrying the Pakistani flag.
