A new anti-Pakistan film has run into controversy within India itself, with a police case now registered against its makers and actors over alleged hurt to religious sentiments.

According to Indian media reports, the controversial film Dharendra 2 has drawn strong backlash from the Sikh community.

An FIR was lodged at a police station in Mumbai following a complaint by Gurjot Singh Keer, a member of Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and president of the group “Sikhs in Maharashtra.”

The complaint names actors R. Madhavan and Ranveer Singh, along with director Aditya Dhar, holding them responsible for a scene deemed offensive.

Allegations of Religious Disrespect

Gurjot Singh strongly condemned what he described as the “open disrespect” of Gurbani, a sacred Sikh scripture. In a video statement shared on social media, he objected to a scene showing a character smoking while reciting holy verses, calling it “completely unacceptable.”

He emphasized that Gurbani is not ordinary dialogue but sacred text, and portraying it in such a manner reflects ignorance and insensitivity.

Call for Protest
The complainant urged the Sikh community to unite and hold peaceful protests until the filmmakers and actors issue a public apology. He stressed that religious sentiments had been deeply hurt and demanded accountability.

Historical Context Highlighted
He further noted that the referenced Gurbani is historically linked to Guru Gobind Singh, dating back to the era of Aurangzeb, underscoring its spiritual and historical significance.

Sikh Community’s Stance
Members of the Sikh community have stated that the issue is not about creative freedom but about clear disrespect toward their faith. They have demanded an immediate apology from those involved, warning that failure to do so could lead to a stronger response in line with their traditions.

The controversy highlights ongoing sensitivities around religious representation in cinema, especially when linked to broader political or cross-border narratives
