Web Desk: Iranian media confirmed the martyrdom of senior political and security figures, including Ali Larijani and Gholam Reza Soleimani, after reported Israeli airstrikes in Tehran.

Local outlets said Israeli fighter jets struck a site in eastern Tehran and martyred Larijani. Reports said he had gone there to visit family. His son, Morteza, was also reportedly martyred in the attack.

A separate strike reportedly targeted and martyred Soleimani. He led Iran’s Basij paramilitary force and oversaw key internal security operations.

A message on a social media account attributed to Larijani confirmed his death. The post read, “a servant of God has returned to God.” However, independent sources have not fully verified the account.

Foreign media reported that Israeli forces targeted what they described as a covert site in Tehran. Israeli officials have not issued a detailed statement so far. Still, earlier remarks signaled intent to target senior Iranian figures.

Israeli officials had earlier described Larijani as a central figure in Iran’s leadership. This followed speculation about power shifts after Ali Khamenei. Some statements framed such actions as part of a broader strategy against Iran’s system.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian paid tribute to Larijani. He called him an experienced leader who served in several key roles. He also said Larijani worked to promote regional peace and stability.

Regional political and religious groups expressed condolences. A spokesperson for the Jaferia Alliance called the martyrdom a major loss for Iran and the wider Muslim world. He added that such sacrifices could strengthen resistance movements.

The reported strikes mark a sharp rise in tensions between Iran and Israel. Both sides have engaged in covert conflict for years. However, these high-profile martyrdoms may signal a more direct phase.

Authorities continue to verify key details, while the regional impact is still unfolding.
