Global exposure of false propaganda, India suspends own TV channels ratings

⏱ 1 minute read

It is an embarrassing situation for India that the country’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has suspended TV news channel ratings for four weeks due to the ongoing war involving Iran.

In the race for higher ratings, these channels allegedly generate so much sensational and fake news that pressure has started coming from Middle Eastern countries, urging India to rein in its media outlets because they are continuously spreading misinformation.

Following this pressure, the Indian government decided to suspend the rating charts, as the channels were reportedly resorting to constant exaggeration and false reporting just to gain higher viewership.

This is also considered embarrassing because while such channels were often accused of spreading misinformation during Pakistan-India tensions, they are now doing the same in a conflict that has nothing to do with India.

According to critics, the situation had become so absurd that the channels might even claim that U.S. President Donald Trump and the Iranian President called Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking him to stop the war. Because of such exaggerated reporting, the government decided to halt the ratings.
