First ever dogfight between Israel & Iran Air Force, Iranian jet shot down

⏱ 2 minute read

In a dramatic escalation, an Israeli F-35I “Adir” stealth fighter reportedly shot down an Iranian Yakovlev YAK-130 aircraft over Tehran, marking what Israeli defense officials describe as a historic first air-to-air kill for the advanced jet.

According to Israeli military sources, the stealth fighter from the Israeli Air Force intercepted and destroyed the Iranian aircraft during an operation over the Iranian capital. The downed aircraft was identified as a Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-operated YAK-130, a Russian-designed trainer and light attack jet recently added to Iran’s fleet.

Shortly after reports of an aircraft being downed began circulating, social media platforms saw a wave of celebratory posts from accounts claiming an Israeli jet had been shot down over Tehran. However, subsequent clarifications from Israeli defense sources indicated the opposite — that the aircraft destroyed was in fact an Iranian Yakovlev YAK-130.

The confusion highlights the intense information warfare accompanying the ongoing confrontation between Israel and Iran, where early battlefield reports are often contradictory and amplified rapidly online.

Rising Tensions
The incident adds another layer of tension to the already volatile regional situation. Iran has not immediately released a detailed official statement regarding the loss of the aircraft, while Israeli officials framed the operation as part of broader defensive and strategic actions.
Defense experts warn that direct aerial engagements over Tehran signal a significant escalation in the conflict’s scope, raising concerns about further retaliation and regional instability.
