PTA issues warning to telecom companies over unauthorized deductions

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken strict notice of unauthorized deductions and additional charges being imposed on mobile users and has issued a clear warning to all telecom companies.

The authority warned that no compromise on consumer rights will be tolerated, and legal action will be taken against companies found in violation.


According to the PTA, in recent days it received complaints from consumers regarding unauthorized deductions, forced subscriptions to value-added services, and sudden changes in mobile tariffs. Taking immediate action, the regulator issued clear directives.

The statement said that prior approval will be mandatory before launching any mobile package or making changes to existing tariffs, especially for operators with significant market power.


The PTA further clarified that explicit and verified consumer consent is required before activating value-added services. Subscribing users to any service or applying charges without permission will be considered a serious violation.

The authority has directed all operators to adopt transparent charging systems so that consumers receive complete and timely details of every deduction and charge.


The statement added that the Mobile Tariff Regulations 2025 have been enforced to ensure a structured and balanced tariff system. Under these rules, if any tariff is found to be against consumer interests, the PTA has full authority to intervene immediately and take corrective measures.


The authority also emphasized that no compromise on service quality will be accepted. Companies have been instructed to improve network performance, ensure efficient spectrum usage, and increase investment in infrastructure to provide better call quality and faster data services.


The PTA has advised consumers that if they face any unauthorized deduction or service-related issue, they should immediately contact the PTA helpline or use the complaint management system. The authority stated that all complaints will be addressed on a priority basis and responsible companies will be held accountable.


The PTA’s move is being seen as an important step for mobile users in Pakistan, expected to enhance transparency and improve competition in the telecom sector. Consumers are now watching closely to see how effectively these directives are implemented and what practical action is taken against violators.
