Web desk: Punjab Police and traffic personnel will receive body cameras in stages over the next two months. Punjab Inspector General of Police Abdul Kareem announced this while chairing a meeting at the Central Police Office. The meeting reviewed the progress of reforms under the “Fast Fearless Transparent Justice” initiative.
Panic Buttons and Respectful Citizen Interaction
Panic buttons are being installed outside police stations. These will allow citizens to report misconduct quickly. Officers at police stations, offices, checkpoints, and Khidmat Marakaz must address citizens respectfully using sir, madam, sahib, or sahiba. Counseling and training programs will improve the public image of Punjab Police.
Direct Communication with Citizens
IGP Abdul Kareem continues to communicate directly with citizens through the 1787 Complaint Center. Officials involved in corruption, abuse of authority, or misconduct will face strict accountability. CCTV cameras at all police stations must remain fully functional with backup systems.
Enhanced Monitoring and Supervision
A modern control and monitoring room is being established at the Central Police Office. Safe Cities mechanisms will allow direct oversight of police stations, SHOs, moharrirs, and investigation rooms. Core policing, supervision, and command systems will be strengthened to control crime. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is personally supervising all reform measures.
Traffic Law Enforcement
Traffic rules will be strictly enforced. Violations will be addressed promptly. All citizen interactions at police stations will be fully documented. Key performance indicators will measure accountability. The IGP personally contacts citizens to gather feedback on police services.
Prioritizing Women and Children
RPOs and DPOs will meet citizens directly to resolve complaints. Cases involving abuse, harassment, or violence against women and children will be handled respectfully and prioritized. Virtual Women Police Stations and the Center for Child Safety will support quick resolution.
Timely Complaint Resolution
The IGP contacted citizens through the 1787 Complaint Center to learn about complaint redressal times, police responsiveness, and overall conduct. Feedback was collected regarding police actions. Officials must address complaints immediately and provide relief without delay. All complaints through calls, SMS, email, or other channels will be resolved according to timelines and SOPs. Citizens are encouraged to report any misconduct through 1787.
Leadership and Oversight
The IGP received a detailed briefing on the 1787 dashboard and complaints from across Punjab. Senior officers present included Punjab Additional IGP Imran Arshad, Additional IGP Internal Accountability Imran Mehmood, Additional IGP Logistics Fawad-ud-Din Qureshi, AIG Inspection, and AIG Operations.
