India becomes center of cyber scammers

India has turned into a global hub of cyber fraud. Investigations by US authorities have exposed large-scale cybercrime operations in India.

According to the American newspaper The Washington Post, investigations into a fraud worth millions of dollars in the US state of Maryland revealed the involvement of Indian call centers. Three Indian call centers targeted more than 650 people, causing financial losses exceeding 48 million dollars.

Indian fraudsters used to pose as representatives of US law enforcement agencies. From these call centers, Indian scammers identified American targets through emails, phone calls, and pop-up messages. Acting on information provided by US authorities, Indian agencies arrested six ringleaders of the fraud group and seized their equipment.

FBI Special Agent Jimmy Paul has also confirmed the dismantling of fraud networks operating from three Indian call centers.
According to international experts, using fake identities of foreign state institutions as a weapon is clear evidence of the Modi government’s diplomatic and administrative incompetence. Recent incidents of organized fraud in India openly expose weak state oversight and institutional failures.
