⏱ 2 minute read

Web desk: The US Navy shot down an Iranian drone near the USS Abraham Lincoln on Tuesday. This action occurred after the drone approached the aircraft carrier.

The drone was a Shahed 139 model. An F 35 US fighter jet intercepted it and destroyed it. The jet acted swiftly to protect the carrier and its crew.

Navy Captain Tim Hawkins said the aircraft defended the ship and personnel on board. Fortunately no US service members were injured and no equipment was damaged.

Meanwhile diplomats were organizing nuclear talks between the United States and Iran. US President Donald Trump warned that bad things could happen if a deal is not reached.

The Lincoln carrier strike group forms a key part of the US military buildup in the Middle East. This deployment followed violent anti government protests in Iran. The unrest was the deadliest in the country since 1979.

Trump has urged Iran to make nuclear concessions. In response he sent a fleet of US ships to Iran’s coast. Iran’s top security official Ali Larijani said preparations for negotiations are underway.

Pakistan has received an invitation to join the US Iran talks. The Foreign Office confirmed the invitation on Tuesday. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir are expected to represent Pakistan.

Overall the incident shows that tensions in the region remain high. It also highlights the importance of diplomatic talks and military vigilance.
