PTI leadership in trouble over foreign funding

⏱ 2 minute read

Web desk: A new difficulty has emerged for PTI founder Imran Khan in the foreign funding case.

During a hearing at the Banking Court Islamabad, the court gave the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) two days to complete the challan against Imran Khan.

Banking Court Judge Abdul Ghafoor Kakar conducted the hearing. Special Prosecutor Wasiq Malik appeared before the court on behalf of the prosecution.

Judge Kakar questioned the prosecution about the delay and asked why the challan was still incomplete. In response, the Special Prosecutor said the FIA had sent letters to a relevant foreign country to seek its opinion in the case.

The judge remarked that the case has remained pending since 2022. He noted that the investigation showed no serious progress during this period.

The court said it was considering issuing a show-cause notice to the investigation officer. It also warned that it might summon the Director General of the FIA at the next hearing.

The Special Prosecutor requested the court to grant one week or ten days to complete the challan and to suspend any strict orders for the time being.

Judge Kakar said he would review the request. He directed the prosecution to demonstrate clear progress within two days.

The court adjourned the hearing of the PTI foreign funding case until February 4.
