Questions raised over Rs4 Billion Tirah IDP funds

⏱ 2 minute read

Web desk: Former DIG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police Muhammad Idrees Khan disputed claims of a full military operation in Tirah, stating that security forces are only conducting intelligence based operations (IBOs). These actions are being deliberately presented as a full scale operation with the provincial government allegedly running propaganda against its own institutions. This narrative he claimed aims to justify the allocation of four billion rupees.

In contrast to past full scale operations in Swat and Hangu, Khan pointed out that Tirah shows no heavy troop movement, suggesting the situation doesn’t match a major operation. He warned that linking seasonal migration to IDPs gives the issue an ethnic color hiding governance failure and corruption.

Khan emphasized that the Deputy Commissioner Khyber wrote a letter on October 28 and subsequently four billion rupees appeared in the cabinet agenda on November 14. He alleged the so called operation now provides justification to release and spend this amount. He stressed that a real operation would show clear and heavy army movement which isn’t visible in Tirah.

Khan criticized the mixing of IDP and migration issues stating people migrate every year in winter after snowfall and locals temporarily move to Bara. He urged the provincial government to clarify its position saying this narrative hides thirteen years of poor governance and using ethnic politics to cover failures is dangerous for the state.
