Web Desk: Islamabad authorities announced temporary traffic diversions at Srinagar Highway on Thursday due to VIP movement, while enforcement against vehicles without mandatory M-Tags continued across the federal capital.
Earlier, Islamabad Traffic Police said it would impose temporary traffic diversions from late morning to early afternoon on Thursday. The restrictions will remain in place between approximately 11:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., affecting key arteries including Srinagar Highway, Zero Point and the Garden Avenue Expressway.
As a result, commuters traveling through these routes were advised to plan ahead and expect delays during the specified hours.
Meanwhile, traffic police urged motorists to use alternate roads to avoid congestion. Recommended routes include Jinnah Avenue, Ninth Avenue, Seventh Avenue, Club Road and inner-city service roads.
Officials advised commuters to allow an additional 20 to 45 minutes for travel during the diversion period. Traffic police officers will be deployed at major junctions to facilitate smoother vehicle flow and minimize disruption.

In addition to traffic management measures, authorities in Islamabad continued their crackdown on vehicles without registered M-Tags.
According to officials, automated readers have been activated at multiple checkpoints across the city to detect non-compliant vehicles. Enforcement teams are stopping vehicles lacking M-Tags as part of the ongoing drive.
At the same time, M-Tag installation remains available at 15 designated booths operating in various parts of the capital.
The Director General Excise urged vehicle owners to complete registration promptly, warning that failure to comply could lead to legal action and inconvenience.
After several deadline extensions, authorities confirmed that the final date for M-Tag registration has passed. From Jan. 15, 2026, vehicles without M-Tags are barred from entering Islamabad.
Officials reiterated that further action will be taken under relevant laws against violators, adding that compliance is essential to avoid penalties and travel restrictions.
