Web Desk: Former Federal Minister and senior politician Fawad Chaudhry has acknowledged governments decision to join Gaza Peace board. He said Pakistan shall play its role in defining the future of Palestinian people.

Pakistan has accepted the invitation to join the ‘Board of Peace’ for lasting peace in Gaza. The Foreign Office spokesperson confirmed that Pakistan has accepted the invitation to join the Board of Peace.

According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, US President Donald Trump invited Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to join the Board of Peace. The spokesperson said that Pakistan announced its support for the Gaza Peace Plan under UN Security Council Resolution 2803. The aim of the Peace Board is to take practical steps for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

Pakistan has also emphasised the need to increase humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people. Pakistan also reiterated its strong support for the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.

Pakistan supports the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state. Pakistan’s position is that a Palestinian state should be established on the pre-1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.

The Foreign Office spokesperson said that Pakistan will continue to play a constructive role in alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people, and the platform of the Board of Peace is expected to bring practical progress for peace.

According to a foreign news agency, the United States is demanding that various world leaders become part of the board headed by Trump, in which a fee of one billion dollars has been set for a permanent seat.

Although the purpose of this board was initially stated to be to oversee the rehabilitation of Gaza, its charter did not limit its scope to Gaza alone. The news agency says that according to the documents, this institution may also try to emerge as an alternative or rival to the United Nations.
