Web Desk: Pakistan’s rising squash star Mehwish Ali sustained serious injuries after colliding with her Czech opponent during the semi-final of the Junior Open 2026 in Karachi, officials and family sources said on Monday.

The incident occurred during the girls’ Under-17 semi-final when Mahwish, who was leading the match 2-1, crashed into her opponent early in the fourth game. As a result of the impact, she collapsed on the court and remained motionless for several minutes, prompting immediate concern among officials and spectators.

Tournament medical staff provided initial treatment before transferring Mahwish to a nearby hospital for further care. Doctors admitted her to the intensive care unit as a precaution. According to hospital sources, her condition has since stabilized and is described as satisfactory.

Meanwhile, Mahwish’s father and coach, Arif Ali, confirmed that the young athlete is responding well to treatment. However, he urged fans and the nation to continue praying for her full and speedy recovery. He added that doctors are closely monitoring her condition.

The incident has drawn widespread attention within Pakistan’s sporting community. Fellow players, coaches, and fans expressed concern and shared messages of support on social media, highlighting the risks young athletes face during high-intensity competition.

While officials have not announced a timeline for Mahwish’s return to the court, her family remains hopeful. For now, the focus remains on her recovery as Pakistan’s junior squash circuit rallies behind one of its most promising talents.
