International book fair begins in Karachi

Karachi: The International Book Fair has started in Karachi at the Expo Centre. Sindh’s Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah officially opened the event. A large number of students, families, writers and book lovers attended the opening day.

December 18 to December 22, the Karachi World Book Fair will continue for five days. It is being held in three halls of the Expo Centre and is one of the biggest book events in the city.

Many notable people were present at the opening ceremony. These included Arts Council Pakistan President Muhammad Ahmed Shah, Chairman of Publishers and Booksellers Association Kamran Noorani, National Book Foundation Director Kamran Jahangir and Convener of the Karachi International Book Fair Waqar Mateen Khan.

On the occasion, Waqar Mateen Khan said that the purpose of the book fair is to promote reading, especially among children and young people. He also shared that the fair will remain open till December 22.

This year, the fair features 140 well-known publishers and 40 international exhibitors from 17 countries. In addition, there are 329 stalls where visitors can buy and explore a wide range of books. These include novels, educational titles, research works, Islamic literature, as well as many other subjects.

President of (Arts Council Pakistan) Muhammad Ahmed Shah, said he felt happy to see so many children at the book fair and this shows a positive future. He said, “Books are the key to civilization.”

The Karachi World Book Fair gives people a great chance to enjoy reading and learn from books from Pakistan and around the world.
