Circumstances turn unfavorable for India in Bangladesh again

Web Desk: Supporters of the July Oikya staged a road blockade in Dhaka, as they marched toward the Indian High Commission, calling for the extradition of individuals accused of attempting to kill Osman Hadi, spokesperson for Inqilab Moncho and a prospective independent candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency.

March led by student leaders

The demonstration, led by Social Welfare Secretary of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU), began at Rampura Bridge around 3 p.m. and moved toward North Badda. Confronted by police, protesters halted in front of Hossain Market and sat on the road, chanting slogans.

Zubair addressed the crowd, emphasizing that the march was intended as a peaceful expression of dissent. “We are not here to attack the Indian High Commission. Our goal is to send a message that no one can impose dominance over Bangladesh,” he said. He warned, however, that attempts to assert hegemonic control over the country would not be tolerated.

Traffic disruption and police response

The road blockade caused heavy congestion in the area, with police establishing barricades on both sides and protesters occupying one lane, stopping vehicles from moving between Natun Bazar and Rampura. Authorities urged commuters to seek alternative routes as traffic snarls persisted.

Diplomatic tensions

On the same day, India’s Ministry of External Affairs summoned Bangladesh High Commissioner to India, Riaz Hamidullah, expressing concerns over activities by certain groups reportedly planning to create security challenges near Indian territory. High Commissioner Hamidullah was briefed on India’s apprehensions regarding the deteriorating security situation in Bangladesh.

The incident underscores rising tensions surrounding political violence in Dhaka and the challenges authorities face in maintaining public order amid demonstrations targeting sensitive diplomatic sites.
