Islamabad: Pakistan has discovered new oil and gas reserves in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kohat region, the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) said Wednesday, marking a significant boost for the country’s energy sector.

OGDCL Confirms Find in Nashpa Block

An OGDCL spokesperson said the latest discovery was made in the Nashpa Block near Kohat. The company identified commercially viable reserves at the Baragzai X-1 well, which was drilled to a depth of 5,170 meters.

According to initial assessments, the well is expected to produce 2,280 barrels of oil per day along with 5.6 million cubic feet of gas. The spokesperson noted that this marks the first hydrocarbon discovery from the Kingriali formation within the block. The find could open new exploration prospects in the region and strengthen Pakistan’s upstream portfolio.

Stakeholders and Production Shares

OGDCL operates the Nashpa Block with a 65 percent working interest, followed by Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) with 30 percent and Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) with 5 percent.

Discovery Expected to Boost Energy Supply

Officials say the discovery will expand OGDCL’s reserve base and contribute to meeting Pakistan’s growing energy demands. They added that the additional output could support national efforts to reduce reliance on imported fuels and stabilize domestic supply.
