Islamabad: Federal government is considering relocating former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan from Adiala Jail, according to Ikhtiyar Wali Khan Prime Minister’s coordinator for Information, amid escalating political friction and clashes outside the facility.
Situation Has “Reached a Point of No Return”
According to government sources, officials believe the PTI leadership is pursuing an agenda that could fuel national instability. They accuse the party of attempting to provoke unrest under the guise of protests.
Ikhtiyar Wali, the prime minister’s coordinator, said authorities were reviewing a proposal to shift Khan from Adiala Jail. “They want the prisoner moved, and the government is now seriously considering it,” he said. The government has not announced when a final decision on Khan’s possible transfer will be made. Meanwhile, PTI leaders continue to accuse authorities of political victimization, underscoring deepening divisions ahead of upcoming political developments.
Allegations Against KP Chief Minister
Wali also leveled allegations against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, claiming he has ties to drug traffickers. He further alleged that relatives of the chief minister were involved in the narcotics trade. The chief minister has not publicly responded to the accusations.
Clashes Outside Adiala Jail
Tensions flared a day earlier when Khan’s sisters staged a sit-in outside the jail after being denied a meeting with him. Police used water cannons to disperse demonstrators, while PTI supporters reportedly threw stones at officers during the confrontation.
Punjab Assembly Passes Resolution Seeking Ban on PTI Founder
Separately, the Punjab Assembly passed a resolution calling for a ban on Imran Khan and his party. The motion, introduced by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker Tahir Pervaiz, argued that Khan’s statements against state institutions amounted to actions that could incite unrest.
The resolution urged the federal government to take legal action against any political or non-political figures who speak against Pakistan’s integrity and stability. It also commended the security forces and their leadership for their role in safeguarding the country.
