Rawalpindi: Security forces killed five terrorists during an intelligence-driven operation in the Dera Bugti district of Balochistan, Pakistan military’s media wing ISPR said on Saturday.

Intelligence Tip-Off Leads to Firefight

According to a statement from security officials, the raid was launched on December 5 following reports of the presence of militants described by authorities as members of a group they allege is backed from abroad. The military said troops engaged the suspects’ hideout and exchanged heavy fire before killing five men.

Officials claimed the individuals were involved in multiple attacks in the surrounding area. They reported recovering weapons, ammunition and explosives from the site.

Area Undergoing Sanitization Sweep

Following the clash, security forces began a sweep of the area to ensure no other militants remained nearby. Authorities said the operation forms part of Pakistan’s ongoing counterterrorism campaign known as “Azm-e-Istehkam,” which was approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan.

Counterterrorism Drive to Continue

Security agencies stated that operations will continue “at full pace” as part of efforts to eliminate what they describe as foreign-backed militant threats across the country. Independent verification of the incident or the affiliations of those killed was not immediately available.
