Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said on Thursday that the Constitution gives the federal government the authority to impose governor’s rule. He added that any such move in KP would depend on the provincial government’s conduct.

Speaking to the media after inaugurating the Promoli Feeder in Swabi, Kundi said that governor’s rule would not be needed if the provincial government cooperates with the federation. He stressed that KP must work with the federal government in the fight against terrorism.

Kundi said KP is facing a serious wave of terrorism in which officers, security personnel, and civilians are being martyred. He urged the provincial government to act responsibly and support state institutions.

He added that strikes and road blockages for meetings are not a solution and said judicial matters must be resolved in the courts. According to him, the provincial and federal governments should settle issues through dialogue and understanding.

Highlighting the need for federal support, Kundi said, “If we want to run the province effectively, we need the federation’s backing.” He repeated that the Constitution authorises the federal government to impose governor’s rule if necessary.

When asked about the likelihood of governor’s rule, Kundi said the Governor represents the federation and would implement any decision taken by the federal government.

Speaking about Afghan refugees, Kundi said all undocumented Afghan nationals must return to their country. He added that no country allows foreigners to stay without visas and asked the provincial government to fulfil its responsibility in this regard.
