Chiniot: A report from Chiniot highlights the massive price increase and the severe shortage of motorcycle helmets. This after the strict implementation of new traffic laws in Punjab. It made wearing helmets compulsory for all motorcyclists.

Key Points:

  • Mandatory Helmet Law: Helmets have become mandatory for all citizens riding motorcycles after the Punjab government amended the traffic laws.
  • Market Disruption: Due to this announcement market has been disrupted. The market in Chiniot is completely out of stock after a rush of huge buyers was experienced by every helmet shop.
  • Shortage and Price Gouging: This has led to citizens not being able to find helmets anywhere. Some citizens started that helmets were previously being sold at Rs. 800-900. However, after the shortage the price has reached up to a distressing Rs. 3000-3500. Now even at this inflated price it has become impossible for citizens to find a helmet. A citizen shared “The helmet that was available for Rs. 800 or Rs. 900 is now being sold for Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 3,500, and even then, it’s hard to find.”
  • Public Distress: The shortage has directly impacted the daily lives of the citizens. They have not been able to do their daily and routine tasks like dropping children at school because they have no helmets.
  • Demand for Government Intervention: Citizens are urging the government to ensure the helmets are available in controlled rates.
