Advisor to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah said on Monday that the government is creating a new and important institution with the appointment of the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF).

Speaking to a private news channel, he said the notification for the CDF appointment will not be issued in haste. He added that the notification will be released at the right time after the Prime Minister returns.

Sanaullah explained that first comes the Constitution, then the law, and then the rules made under the law — and all decisions will be taken carefully.

He said there is a difference between considering an option and making a final decision, and that several options remain under review. He added that the CDF’s five-year term will begin on the day the notification is issued.

Sanaullah also said former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif never tried to block the CDF notification and that statements linking him to the issue are baseless.

He said a PTI delegation had requested a meeting with the Speaker, and he was present during that request. The delegation was told the matter would be presented to the Prime Minister when he returns. But after they left, the KP Chief Minister issued a threat, which led to the decision not to allow the meeting.
