The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) has started a major infrastructure upgrade at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, launching work on a new state-of-the-art Air Traffic Control (ATC) Tower and a modern Rescue and Fire Fighting Station (RFFS).

In its statement, the authority said the project aims to improve air traffic management, boost operational safety, and strengthen emergency response at the country’s busiest airport.

Officials confirmed that the design phase will take six months, followed by 24 months of construction.

PAA is developing these facilities in a joint venture with Spain-based CEMOSA and Fairbanks Architects, bringing international expertise in airport planning and Communication, Navigation and Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) systems.

The press release added that a four-day inception workshop held at the airport gathered international aviation specialists, who met with local aviation professionals to refine project requirements and review technical details.

After evaluating three possible sites, PAA finalised the locations for both the ATC Tower and the RFFS, ensuring they align with operational needs, safety standards, and future airport expansion plans.

The authority said the initiative represents a major step toward upgrading Pakistan’s aviation infrastructure according to global standards and best practices.
