Winning the toss, the visiting South African team opted to bat first and posted a formidable 489 runs in their first innings. In response, India managed only 201 runs, trailing by 288 runs.

South Africa began their second innings with a 288-run lead and declared at 260 for the loss of five wickets. India, in their second innings, could muster just 140 runs before being bowled out, sealing their defeat.

This victory is notable as it marks the first time in 25 years that South Africa has won a Test series in India, the previous win being in 2000. Earlier, in a Test at Eden Gardens, South Africa had also defeated India by 30 runs on the third day of the match.

Across the entire series, India have looked far from their usual standards. They appeared to have walked straight into South Africa’s grinding, patient strategy. After losing the opening Test in Kolkata while chasing just 124—thanks to a series of errors, the second Test in Guwahati has unfolded along a similar pattern.

The Proteas stuck to their disciplined plan, confident that the pressure to force a result lay firmly on India.
