DI Khan: Pakistan’s security forces neutralised atleast ten militants during an intelligence-based operation in Kulachi Tehsil of Dera Ismail Khan on November 17, security sources said on Monday.
Key Militant Leader Among Those Killed
Security officials said the dead included a senior Khawarij commander and four Afghan nationals. They added that four other militants were wounded in the exchange of fire. Among those killed was Alam Mehsud, a former deputy of Abu Zukawan and a long-sought figure linked to several major attacks.
Mastermind of High-Profile Attacks
Investigators said Mehsud had orchestrated multiple deadly assaults, including the 2008 Nawaz Kot post attack, the 2010 Bannu jailbreak and a 2014 strike on a military post. Other militants identified by officials included Sari, son of Gul Nawaz; Sajid, son of Majeed and Tariq, son of Hakeem.
Weapons and Explosives Recovered
During the operation, security forces recovered a large cache of weapons, explosives, suicide vests and improvised explosive devices. Officials said the haul indicated that the group was planning further attacks in the region.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts to target militant networks operating across northwestern Pakistan. Authorities said follow-up searches were underway.
