Lahore: The Punjab government has launched a large-scale operation against Afghan nationals residing illegally in the province and announced a reward scheme for citizens. Under this scheme, authorities will give Rs 10,000 to anyone who reports an illegal Afghan national.
Reward scheme launched for citizens
According to sources, Punjab Police has urged the public to cooperate and announced that it will give a reward of Rs 10,000 to anyone who reports an illegal Afghan national. The police assured that they will keep the informer’s identity completely confidential.
Instructions to police officials
The Punjab IG has directed all SHOs to immediately provide reward money to the citizen who provides information. Officials say the campaign is also targeting landlords and shopkeepers who are providing accommodation to illegal Afghans.
Scope of operation expanded
Furthermore, the campaign will not be limited to illegal residents but will also target Afghan nationals who are doing business in Pakistan on tourist or medical visas. Citizens who provide information about such individuals will also get a reward of Rs 10,000 per case.
Appeal to public for cooperation
Punjab Police has appealed to citizens to play an active role in the campaign. The police have assured that complete protection and confidentiality will be provided to informers while there will be no delay in the action.
Increase in arrests and deportations
According to the data, there has been a 150 percent increase in the number of arrests of Afghan nationals in Pakistan since the beginning of November. In recent days, authorities have arrested 7,764 Afghan nationals, most of them from Chagai, Attock and Quetta. During this period, officials have increased the number of Afghans who returned to Afghanistan or were deported to 37,448. Of these, 47 percent were Pass of Registration (PoR) card holders, 44 percent were undocumented and 93 percent of the deportees were illegal residents.

Officials say that the government’s aim is to maintain the rule of law in the province and ensure systematic action against illegal foreigners. The Punjab government has made it clear that the campaign will continue in a transparent and legal framework, keeping in mind the principles of humanitarianism.
