27th Constitutional Amendment

Islamabad: 27th Constitutional Amendment has officially become part of the Constitution after President Asif Ali Zardari signed the amendment bill into law, following its passage from both houses of Parliament.

Zardari’s Signature Makes It Law

After the President’s signature, the amendment has now formally become a part of Pakistan’s Constitution. Meanwhile, officials said the amendment reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and ensure smoother coordination between the federation and provinces.

Parliament Gives Final Approval

The National Assembly and Senate had already approved the 27th Amendment Bill with a clear majority earlier. The legislation was then sent to the President for final assent, completing the constitutional process required under Article 75.

Step Toward Strengthening Governance

Government sources described the approval as a milestone in Pakistan’s constitutional evolution. The amendment, they added, aims to refine certain governance mechanisms and improve administrative efficiency. However, detailed provisions of the 27th Amendment were not immediately disclosed.

Transition to Implementation

With the constitutional process complete, federal and provincial authorities are expected to begin implementing the new provisions in the coming weeks. Legal experts say the amendment’s impact will become clearer as its clauses are applied to ongoing legislative and administrative matters.
