Honk Kong Sixes

Under the leadership of Abbas Afridi, Pakistan has clinched the title at the Hong Kong Sixes 2025 tournament. Marking their sixth title victory, the most received by any team in tournament history, after a commanding 43-run win against Kuwait in the championship match.

Having lost five finals before, the Men in Green put on a clinical, all-round performance in finals and ending their title drought. Even though rain affected the group stage and caused a loss against India through the DLS method, Pakistan went on to defeat South Africa in the quarter-finals and Australia in the semi-finals before beating Kuwait in the final.

In the final, Pakistan’s top-order batting first, launched a vicious assault against the Kuwait bowling attack. Captain Abbas Afridi made a stunning contribution, scoring 52 from 11 balls, which included seven colossal sixes. He received strong support from Khawaja Nafay and Abdul Samad. Abdul Samad is about to have his national ODI debut in the forthcoming series against Sri Lanka. Thus, Pakistan set a massive total of 136 runs.

Kuwait almost pulled off an upset, by scoring 32 runs in the first over of the match. However, Pakistani bowlers quickly regained composure. In the second over, Mohammad Shahzad came in, dismissing the key wicket of Adnan Idrees. He conceded only 15 runs which turned the tide in the bowlers’ favor. Maaz Sadaqat kept the run rate low and got another important wicket which peaked the control the bowlers had over the match.

Kuwait’s middle order and lower order were dismantled by the quick bowling of Abbas Afridi and Maaz Sadaqat. Prompting a 43 run victory for the Pakistan team. This win, boasts Pakistan’s versatility in the shorter formats. 2025 Hong Kong Sixes, shows Pakistan’s dominance in this format as Pakistan celebrated their sixth title.
