Pakistani wicket-keeper batter Azam Khan has made remarkable progress on his fitness journey. He recently posted that he has lost 15kg in the last two months. Fitness has been one of the biggest criticisms he has received. Azam took to social media to document his journey posting “15,000 grams lighter, more to come, InshaAllah”.
This 26-year-old has been a dominant batsman in the domestic circuit but has received criticism for his fitness, mobility and wicket-keeping at the international level. He has now made the first step in attempting to overhaul his reputation and transform to a more rounded cricketer.
Azam made his T20I debut for Pakistan in 2021 but has been largely absent from the squad since. In the times he has played, although he has impressive power, he has struggled against fast bowlers and due to this has gotten limited opportunities in the playing 11. With the new approach to his fitness, Azam can now also focus on reclaiming a position in the national team.
When it comes to the wicketkeeper batter’s training routines, he seems to be following a fitness plan that includes high-intensity training along with a tailored diet plan. Currently, he is working on his speed between the wickets and his stumping reflexes. These two areas have been most heavily scrutinized and talked about during his selection.
Azam is a good example of self-improvement and career progress. This physical and mental transformation will better his domestic and international careers. It looks like that Azam Khan has listened to both the critics and the fans. Azam Khan seems focused on turning his weakness into one of his biggest strength.
