Punjab finalizes security plan for T20I tri-series

LAHORE: The Punjab government has finalized a comprehensive security plan for the upcoming T20 international tri-series.

The tri-series, scheduled from November 11 to 27 in Lahore and Rawalpindi, featuring Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe

The services of the Pakistan Army, Rangers, and Aviation units have been requisitioned to ensure foolproof security during the matches, according to the provincial Home Department. The provincial home department said that one company each of the Army and Rangers will be deployed in Lahore while three companies each will be deputed in Rawalpindi.

Army Aviation helicopters will also be on standby in Lahore to assist with aerial surveillance, said home department, adding that the deployment of troops and Rangers will take place under Article 245 of the Constitution and the Pakistan Rangers Ordinance, 1959.

The security forces will remain on duty from November 8 to November 30, covering all match venues, team accommodations, and travel routes.

The Punjab Home Department has formally sent a request to the federal Ministry of Interior for the deployment and directed all concerned institutions to complete security and related arrangements in time.

The spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department has also confirmed that foolproof measures will be in place to ensure the safety of players and spectators throughout the series.

The tri-series will commence on 17 November, with hosts Pakistan taking on Zimbabwe at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. The second fixture will also be played at the same venue on 19 November, when Sri Lanka take on Zimbabwe.

Following the two matches in Rawalpindi, the action will shift to Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, which will stage the remaining five matches, including the final on 29 November.

Earlier, Afghanistan expressed their inability to participate in the tournament.
