Web Desk: Pakistan’s passport has achieved a significant milestone, entering the list of the world’s 100 most powerful passports following a series of reforms and technological upgrades. Speaking in the National Assembly, Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry highlighted that the improvement reflects both domestic administrative reforms and enhanced international connectivity.

Reforms Drive Global Recognition

Dr. Chaudhry explained that the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports implemented extensive reforms, including the introduction of a modern e-passport personalization system and upgraded security features in machine-readable passports. Consequently, these measures have strengthened safeguards against forgery while improving international credibility.

Visa-Free Access Expands

He added that as of August 5, 2025, Pakistan has signed visa exemption agreements for diplomatic and official passport holders with 50 countries, with negotiations ongoing with additional nations. Moreover, the gradual shift to ICAO-compliant e-passports allows citizens to use e-gates at domestic and international airports, further facilitating travel.

Enhanced Security and Cultural Features

The upgraded e-passports now incorporate biometric microchips, polycarbonate data pages, laser-engraved details and visa pages reflecting Pakistan’s cultural heritage. Notably, children’s passports now include the mother’s name, marking an important step toward inclusivity.

International Appreciation Grows

Dr. Chaudhry emphasized that these technological and diplomatic efforts have bolstered Pakistan’s global standing and strengthened ties with Islamic and other friendly countries. He expressed satisfaction that the combined impact of reforms and upgrades is enhancing both the prestige and acceptance of Pakistan’s passport internationally.
