NCCIA scandal: Massive call centre fraud exposed

Investigators have made development in the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) corruption case, with a major alleged scam exposed through call centres.

According to sources, in multiple operations at more than 20 call centres in the federal capital and Rawalpindi, two directors, three deputy directors, and two inspectors of NCCIA were reportedly found involved in the call centre scam. According to the media report, officials confiscated important records.  

Investigating agencies have found call logs, financial transactions, and important call records of NCCIA officials. NCCIA officials reportedly misuse the call centre networks for identification and financial data. The investigators have also tracked the funding networks involved in the call centre scams.  

Intelligence information and CCTV footage have provided solid evidence of the call centres’ activities. Law enforcement agencies have secured the banking and mobile payment trail, and evidence has been obtained of funds being transferred abroad through banking channels. A case against the concerned officers is expected to be registered in the coming days.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested five officials of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) involved in corruption worth millions of rupees, the private media channel reported on Tuesday.

According to FIA, the apprehended officers include Additional Director NCCIA Sarfraz Chaudhry. The arrests were made following an inquiry conducted by the FIA’s Anti-Corruption Circle.

FIA officials revealed that the accused officials abused their authority and accepted hefty bribes during service.

All five officers will be presented in the court tomorrow for the continued legal process, the investigators confirmed.  

Earlier, the DSP legal told Islamabad High Court (IHC) that the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Deputy Director Muhammad Usman, along with other officers, had disappeared under unclear circumstances in the high-profile Ducky Bhai case.
