Web Desk: India’s star opener Rohit Sharma has climbed to the top of the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings for the first time in his career, following a stellar performance in the three-match series against Australia.

Rohit scored a composed 73 runs in Adelaide and followed it up with an unbeaten 121-run match-winning knock in Sydney, guiding India to a series victory and earning the Player of the Series award. The 36-year-old’s consistency lifted him to 781 rating points, pushing past Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran and Indian teammate Shubman Gill to become the world’s top-ranked ODI batter.

This marks Rohit’s first time reaching the No. 1 position in ODIs his previous best was second place in July 2018.

Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran had briefly made history as his country’s first-ever batter to hold the top ODI ranking earlier this month, after overtaking Gill between the second and third matches of the series. However, Rohit’s surge has now moved him ahead of both.

Other Ranking Movements

India’s vice-captain Shreyas Iyer gained one spot to reach ninth in the latest rankings update, while Australia’s fast bowler Josh Hazlewood climbed two places to eighth among bowlers.
Leg-spinner Adam Zampa also rose two positions to 12th, while Indian all-rounders Axar Patel and Washington Sundar made significant progress — jumping six places to 31st and twenty-two spots to 73rd, respectively.

England’s captain Harry Brook surged 23 places to achieve a career-best 25th position, following his superb 135-run innings against New Zealand in Mount Maunganui.

Test Rankings Update

In the latest Test rankings, Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel advanced one spot to 12th, and captain Shan Masood climbed five places to 42nd.
South Africa’s Tony de Zorzi jumped seven positions to 47th, while spinner Keshav Maharaj made a nine-place leap to 13th after taking nine wickets in the Rawalpindi Test against Pakistan.
Teammate Simon Harmer, who claimed six wickets in the second innings, rose 26 places to reach 45th.

The latest ICC rankings reflect a strong period for India’s senior batters, while Afghanistan continues to make its mark with historic progress in international cricket.
