As the temperature falls, several people opt for a hot bowl of soup.
At the same time, several go for ready-made soups loaded with cream or sodium, nutrition experts advised nutritious substitutes that can help weight loss, provide necessary nutrients, and boost a sense of comfort and fullness.
A nutrition expert, Dr Courtney D’Angelo from “Eat This, Not That”, and author of Gowellness, advised that the healthiest soups for weight loss are those that include rich fibre, vitamins, and minerals. She mentions vegetable chicken soup as a perfect example.
Dr Courtney D’Angelo stresses that choosing the right vegetables is important. “Vegetable chicken soup is both delicious and nourishing,” she says, pointing out the value of comprising ingredients, for example, cabbage, beans, tomatoes, broccoli, celery, and zucchini. Among the many varieties of vegetable chicken soup, she recommends prioritising three main ingredients.
Cabbage
Cabbage offers major nutritional benefits, including beta-carotene, vitamin C, and fibre, all of which can help to weight loss.
Broccoli
Broccoli has vitamins and minerals, including vitamins C, A, K, and B9 (folate), and is high in fibre. As per the research published in the International Journal of Food Sciences and Nutrition highlights that broccoli may contribute to reducing inflammation in the body, lowering levels of C-reactive protein, a major indicator of inflammation.
Chicken
Chicken provides protein to the body, which is important for a weight-loss diet. Protein-rich foods need more energy to digest, accelerating calorie burn.
For more fibre, Dr D’Angelo advises mixing a scoop of rice to the soup, keeping up the feeling of fullness.
