Water supply cut in three Karachi districts  for next two days

No water in Karachi

The Karachi Water Corporation has issued an alert, calling on citizens to save water beforehand as the Karachi water supply is set to face a short-term suspension due to repair work on the Hub Canal, the private media outlet reported.

As per officials, the Karachi water supply to three major districts — West, Keamari, and Central — will be halted for two days after WAPDA announced a 48-hour maintenance of the Hub Canal. The closure, scheduled from October 28 to 29, is meant to facilitate a detailed inspection and repair work from Hub Dam to the X-Regulator.

A spokesperson for the Karachi Water Corporation mentioned that the project director of Hub Dam had officially notified the utility about the planned shutdown. During this shutdown, Karachi water supply operations in affected districts will be closed, causing possible shortages across multiple neighborhoods.

Citizens have been urged to limit water consumption and reserve enough quantities in advance to avoid any inconvenience during the maintenance work.

Officials further stated that the closure is a part of regular upkeep intended to enhance the performance of the Karachi water distribution system.

Earlier, the Karachi water supply had been seriously interrupted as maintenance work continues on key water lines and pumping facilities across the city.

As per the spokesperson of the Water Corporation, repair work is in progress on the 11K line connected to the North East Pumping facility, where leakage occurred in a 48-inch main pipeline.

Due to this, three pumps supplying water to the city have been halted temporarily, while one pump at the Dhabeji Pumping Station has also been closed for maintenance, wosening the Karachi water supply network.

Areas comprising Scheme 33, Safora, North Nazimabad, Gulberg, Liaquatabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, and Federal B. Area are severely affected zones, facing an intense shortage in the Karachi water supply.
