Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and Peshawar Corps Commander Lieutenant General Omar Ahmad Bukhari held a meeting last Friday and reviewed the province’s overall security situation, the credible sources told the private media outlet on Tuesday.

CM Sohail Afridi and Peshawar Corps Commander Lieutenant General Omar Ahmad Bukhari met at the CM’s secretariat and discussed counterterror strategy and infrastructure initiatives in tribal districts and other related issues in the meeting.

CM Afridi instructed the army official that all stakeholders in the province should be in the loop to make sure peace and stability in the province.

CM also stressed the need for a mutual strategy to handle the menace of terrorism.

The credible sources informed the private media outlet that the chief minister had called an apex committee meeting after meeting with Corps Commander Peshawar.

Cross-border terrorist incidents:

The cross-border terrorist incidents have increased since the Taliban came into power in Afghanistan in 2021.

According to the police, almost 600 terror attacks have been recorded in the first eight months of 2025 in the province. In an official police report, 79 police officers and 138 civilians were martyred.

The newly made chief minister, Sohail Afridi, has firmly opposed any military operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

“All key decisions concerning the tribal areas would be made in consultation with public representatives and tribal elders rather than behind closed doors. We want our due share and not secondhand vehicles or alms from the Centre,” he had told a Grand Khyber Jirga in his native Bara tehsil of Khyber district on Saturday.

“The tribal people have rendered immense sacrifices for the security and integrity of Pakistan. It is now time to fulfil the promises made with them at the time of merger,” he had mentioned.
