Pakistan has firmly denounced Israel’s move to expand its so-called “sovereignty” over parts of the seized West Bank, including illegal Israeli housing areas, through a proposed legislation introduced in the legislature of the occupying power.
“These actions constitute a flagrant violation of international law, relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, and the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people,” the Foreign Office spokesperson stated in an official release.
He said that such inflammatory and unathorised measures weakened existing efforts to ensure calm and security in the region, reaffirming Pakistan’s urge for the international community to act quickly and effectively to stop these unlawful acts and to make the Israeli occupying forces responsible for their repeated breaches of international law.
The spokesperson also reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to partnering with neighboring and global allies to defend the rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to sovereignty, and to guarantee harmony, fairness, and respect for the Palestinians.
He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s strong solidarity for the Palestinian struggle, including the formation of a free, autonomous, sustainable, and unified State of Palestine, following the pre-1967 boundary lines, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Wednesday cautioned Israel about taking control of the West Bank, stating moves taken by lawmakers and aggression by settlers jeopardized a Gaza ceasefire agreement.
Israeli legislators voted Wednesday to move forward two bills on taking control of the occupied West Bank, just a week after President Donald Trump secured a pact aimed at resolving a two-year extended Israeli conflict in the Gaza Strip that was response for a Hamas attack.
“I think the president’s made clear that’s not something we can be supportive of right now,” Rubio said.
Annexation moves are “threatening for the peace deal,” he added.
