President Trump has confirmed on Wednesday that he was having the whole East Wing razed to create space for his 90,000-square-foot ballroom, a significant enlargement of a project that is reshaping the image of one of America’s most famous landmarks.
U.S. President Donald Trump earlier stated that the ballroom construction would not impact the East wing. The White House has now clarified that its more economical and more stable to just tear it down.
President Trump was indifferent as reports of the demolition surfaced. “It was never thought of as being much,” he remarked about the East Wing, which was home to the first lady’s office and spaces used for ceremonial purposes. “It was a very small building.”
The procedure of tearing down the East Wing was anticipated to finish as soon as this weekend. According to two top government officials, Mr. Trump acted quickly to execute a personal initiative that he said was deemed important to arrange formal gatherings.
But the unexpected move to knock down the East Wing was in conflict with President Trump’s earlier remarks about the project and highlighted his aim to push past the sentiments of political circles to keep leaving a permanent mark on the White House.
