SWAT: Tragedy struck the nationwide anti-polio campaign in the Matta area of Swat when unidentified assailants opened fire on a polio vaccination team, resulting in the martyrdom of a courageous Levies officer.
The martyred officer identified as Abdul Kabir, was providing security for the team when he was targeted by the gunmen. He embraced martyrdom in the line of duty, sacrificing his life to protect the healthcare workers dedicated to shielding children from disability.
Fortunately, other members of the anti-polio team remained safe during the horrific incident. The body of the martyred officer has been shifted to a local hospital.
CONDEMNATIONS
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a polio vaccination team in Swat’s Matta area, which claimed the life of a security official.
In his statement, the prime minister expressed deep sorrow over the martyrdom of Levies personnel Abdul Kabeer, who was deployed to protect the vaccination team.
Offering prayers for the martyred officer and strength for his family, the prime minister said the attack on those working to eradicate polio was unacceptable.
He reaffirmed the government’s resolve to eliminate polio completely, saying that despite threats from terrorists, the anti-polio campaign will continue with full determination until the disease is wiped out from the country.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has also strongly condemned the latest firing incident in Matta, Swat.
Paying tribute to the martyred Levies officer, Abdul Kabir, Minister Naqvi offered heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the bereaved family.
The Minister stressed that Officer Abdul Kabir attained a high rank of martyrdom while performing his duty. He issued a stern warning that the suspects who opened fire on the team, a team working to secure the future of our children, are deserving of no leniency.
