Metro bus service restored in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Public transport services have resumed across Islamabad and Lahore on Tuesday following a four-day suspension due to a protest call by a religious party the Tehrik-e-Labaik Pakistan (TLP).

This protest led to key road closures. The group announced the end of its demonstration on Monday. This paved the way for services to restart. Authorities confirmed the suspension was due to security concerns.

Partial Restoration in Islamabad and Rawalpindi

The Metro Bus Service in the twin cities is back, but only partially. The service was suspended for four consecutive days. Officials confirmed the first phase of restoration is complete. Buses are running between Saddar Station and Kashmir Highway. However, a major section remains closed. The route from Faiz Ahmad Faiz Station to Pak Secretariat is still affected. This is due to containers and security blockades near D-Chowk. Metro Bus authorities will resume full operations later. This will happen once all routes are completely cleared. Separately, the Blue, Green, and Red Line Metro Bus Services in Islamabad are also restored. Electric bus services have resumed partially. Routes near the Red Zone still face ongoing restrictions.

Full Operations Return to Lahore

In contrast, public transport in Lahore has been fully restored. The Orange Line Train and Metro bus services are back on track. The Orange Line resumed operations after a five-day closure. The Metro bus service returned after four days. The Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMTA) confirmed the resumption of both services. The move came after the city situation stabilized. The PMTA made a thorough assessment of the security and traffic situation. Thousands of daily commuters can now resume travel.

Law and Order Maintained

Authorities are maintaining law and order across the affected cities. Lahore police confirmed all markets will remain open. Citizens are encouraged to visit commercial centres without worry. Police assure full protection for businesses and property. Authorities warned against any attempts to disrupt the peace. Islamabad Police also confirmed full readiness. Security at sensitive areas is reinforced. Police are actively managing traffic flow to minimize inconvenience.
