India escape humiliation after barely edging Sri Lanka in Asia Cup clash

⏱ 2 minute read
Sri Lanka Asia Cup

Arshdeep Singh conceded only two runs and took two wickets in the Super Over, and India chased three on the first ball to win.

A team that calls itself the best in the world stood on the brink before Arshdeep Singh dragged India back from defeat

India entered the last act with the match slipping away and Sri Lanka roaring.

Captain Suryakumar Yadav handed the Super Over to Arshdeep Singh, who struck immediately by removing Kusal Perera.

He followed with another wicket, as Dasun Shanaka found the deep third fielder.

Sri Lanka could collect only two runs. In response, Suryakumar drove Wanindu Hasaranga to extra cover and India ran three at once.

The finish looked comfortable, yet the path to it felt anything but.

Sri Lanka’s charge, led by a stunning Pathum Nissanka century, had India reeling until one wicket changed the chase

Sri Lanka needed only 12 in the final over of regulation with Nissanka set on a masterpiece.

Harshit Rana dismissed the centurion on the first ball, and the chase lost its anchor.

Even then, drama persisted. With three needed off the last delivery, Shanaka hit to long on where Arshdeep fumbled, allowing two.

A third seemed possible, but the dive fell short and the game moved to a tie. Nissanka still owned the night with 107 from 58, while Kusal Perera added 58 in a 127 run stand.

India’s batting survived early jolts as Sharma attacked, Tilak Varma finished, and support acts added enough

Maheesh Theekshana removed Shubman Gill early and the score looked fragile.

Sharma countered with 61 from 31 and built a base with Suryakumar Yadav.

Sanju Samson’s 39 and Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 49 kept the total moving. Axar Patel added a calm 21 at the end.

Sri Lanka shared their wickets through Theekshana, Dushmantha Chameera, Wanindu Hasaranga, Charith Asalanka, and Shanaka.

In the end, the claims of greatness survived only because Arshdeep kept his nerve when it mattered most.
